Keeping up with Clara
October 2023

We are heading into the holiday season, a great time to give books. I hope you will think
of Clara in a Time of War as a gift for anyone who likes reading, history, historical fiction, and
plucky female characters. A book is a gift that keeps giving. In this case, I hope Clara gives an
insight into life in the very tumultuous time of the Revolution and into the lives of women who
lived and loved and survived back then.
I recently had the pleasure of speaking at the 18 th -Century Duportail House in
Chesterbrook. The house is named for French General Louis Duportail, who assisted Gen.
Washington at Valley Forge in the winter of 1777-78. A beautiful house, a wonderful crowd, and
lots of good conversation about Clara and history made for a fun evening. Many thanks to Pattye
Benson and the Tredyffrin Historic Preservation Trust.
Next, I’ll be speaking to a women’s group in December. Then I’ll be signing books at 1
p.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, at Barnes & Noble in Devon.
Here’s one more thing on offer. A podcast interview I did recently with Maggie Smith of
the Women’s Fiction Writing Association. Have a listen. Many thanks to Maggie for hosting me!
